iPhone Apps That Will Send You Straight Into the Land of ‘Nostalgia’

If we could travel back in time, then trust us, we would go back to the moment 2020 started. Well, it’s true that the whole idea of time travel surely does seem a bit too far-fetched, because A) we’re not here to defy Physics and B) what if we’re sucked by an enormous Black Hole on our way?

Okay, let’s just not get into such details because we’re already dealing with a dreadful and daunting situation, but, what if you could go back in time, and that too with the help of a few iPhone apps. Yes, you heard it, let’s take a break from all of this and just go back to simpler times when apps weren’t complicated and so weren’t our lives.

Of course, now you have access to probably the coolest apps ever. Plus, when complemented with a reliable connection like Mediacom internet, things only get better. But seriously, it wouldn’t hurt to revisit some of the old apps, would it? So, sit back and put your reading specs on because now we’re about to pay a visit to the old iPhone apps that will let us relive the simpler times of our lives.

1. Flashlight

Can you relate to the struggle of a no-flashlight iPhone? Although older iPhones missed flashlight, that problem was solved (or at least attempted to) by the app that let you adjust the screen brightness and turn our iPhone into a makeshift flashlight. Ah, memories, memories.

2. Fruit Ninja

The idea of this app was simple and not to mention, very stress relieving. All you had to do was slice through virtual fruit and that’s it. The presentation and feel of it were so unique that it went on to become a VR game on the Xbox later on. Very few mobile games have successfully created a legacy of their original version and fruit ninja tops the list.

3. Pudding Monsters

Who would’ve thought a game called Pudding Monsters could be as complex as chess. Minus the opponent, the game was a real test of your wits as you tried to ace every level within the given puddings for pawns on the game’s virtual board. Let’s not forget most of us still go back for that strangely addictive and funny noise the monsters made. Did those Monsters make you crave raspberry jelly too?

4. Doodle Jump

Have you heard the phrase ‘sky is the limit?’ Well, at least it does not apply to this game. Everyone is still curious as to what happens as our Doodled hero goes higher, which is why every time we play, it brings back the memories of how each climb was unique and exciting.

5. Angry Birds

The characters, birds, the enemies, pigs, the stakes, and eggs; this particular app defined whether your iPhone is ‘legit’ or not. At first, it seemed very difficult to even hit the little green guys with a bird because the game made such great use of physics and projectile motion. However, once you were able to master a level using one bird, the franchise released newer versions to make sure that your adhesion is always well fed.

6. Temple Run

Every other game on the App Store is a ‘Run’ game, but none can be as good as the original Temple Run. This particular game was admittedly every bored-kid-in-class’ favorite way to kill time, and get a sense of achievement by making a higher score every time. 

7. Jetpack Joyride

A tiny dude wrecking through a lab on a machine-gun jetpack he just stole. Why? Because it was way too much fun to sit and discuss the prudence of it. Blasting those tiny scientists using their own creation is still most iPhone users’ guilty pleasure (looks away guiltily).

8. Cut The Rope

Omnom has always been everyone’s most yearned fictional pet that they wished was real. The creators knew what they were doing when they set out to create a puzzle game with the ultimate reward at the end of each level — a cute little green monster with a face full of candy no one can ever forget.

9. Subway Surfers

Another one like Temple Run was Subway Surfers. Don’t know about the rest but when this game came out, some people were hooked (points at self). This was another game made around the ‘tilt and move to collect coins’ approach, which definitely required laser-sharp reflexes and high-speed internet such as that provided by Charter Spectrum to keep your surfer from bumping into a wall.

10. Pictionary

Thousands of genres and games may make their way to the market, but none can top the good, old guessing games. Pictionary lets its users draw stuff that was randomly picked by the app and the opponents had to guess. The reason this game got an overwhelming response was the genuine nostalgia it entailed. Originally Pictionary is a board game and turning it into a smartphone app is the wisest thing that app developers could’ve done.

Nothing tops the feeling of reinstalling one of the old games back into your phone and losing track of time. Let’s face it, things nowadays have turned into piles of stress and the only way you can cope up is by distracting your mind. The next time you feel panicked or stressed, just go to the Angry Birds’ app and shoot a bunch of bad piggies. Anything to loosen up that stress and experience nostalgia, all at the same time.
